Cuero TurkeyFest

When:  October
Where: Cuero, TX

Overview: Cuero is Texas' turkey capital- we all know that Cargill is one of those infamously giant Texas brands.  To celebrate their farming and poultry-based heritage, Cuero shows its love for that Thanksgiving bird every fall. How do you celebrate turkeys? Why, with volleyball, horseshoe tossing, and a 'Gobbler Gallop!  This gallop isn't any 5k run for humans though- this is a race to show that Cuero can produce turkeys that are not only delicious, but quick on their feet.  This is one-and-a-half block race between rival birds.  The prize: bragging rights.

World Championship BBQ Goat Cookoff

When:  Last weekend in August
Where: Brady, Texas

Overview: Have a hankering for goat?  How about BBQ goat?  Well then you will want to head on to Brady, Texas during the end of August.  For more than 20 years, locals have gathered to show off their goat cooking talents, and horseshoe/washer toss skills.  The event also hosts local music and a street dance. The most interesting event has to be the annual Mystery Meat Judging Contest.  If plain goat isn't enough for you, you can also try the event specialty- cabrito, or baby goat- that is, if you have a strong enough Texas constitution.
